Through an alternative and authentic tour we wish to leave our guests with an unforgettable and unique experience of the largest favela in Brazil. We want to fascinate and give our guests an enriching experience, showing them our reality and giving them a true feeling of what it’s like to be part of this community.
Rocinha is our home and we want you to feel welcome and have an idea of what life in the favela is like. Even though it says “walking tour”, we will be taking a mototaxi (R$ 5) to the highest point of Rocinha so you can get the best view of the favela, but also see the important parts of Rio from a different angle; Christ the Redeemer, the Sugar Loaf, the downtown, the Lagoon Rodrigo de Freitas and the famous carioca beaches.
Mototaxi is the most common form of transport inside the favela since it can go from bottom to top quicker. No mention the fact it’s much more fun! But if you are not into motorcycles, we also have the option of the local city van (R$3,80).
Whilst showing all the important parts of Rocinha, we will contribute with some of our own experiences and the things we have witnessed during our time here. If the trip has left you tired it will also be possible to buy things to eat, stop to have a break, to get souvenirs, etc.
We’ll pass through the different areas right here so you can get a notion of the big diversity within, and how our community is structured and organized.
We will show you some of the recent initiatives that are improving the conditions in the favela, but also where initiative is lacking. It will be an honest an authentic tour of something very valuable to us and that we are proud to be part of.
We will happily try to fulfil any special request and you should feel free to ask anything you like.
We believe that people who show interest in this tour are already open minded people and we would like to meet your curiosity in a way that will leave you with an unforgettable memory.
This is a “free tour”. It means you are free to decide how much you can pay for the experience or how much you think is fair for it. Your contribution is in cash, and it’s necessary a minimum of 4 pepople to do this tour.
